And it comes with some historic letters about bamboo needles supply!
Pity we cannot read the continuation of the letter (Mr Jones's?) ... where he (?) says he's sending some free samples of his standard bamboo needles for trial, and that they are a bit defective because the rings of the bamboo... ??? I'm intrigued about the continuation!
I make my own bamboos, and I use the ones with rind, but also the other parts with no rind, which I've found work well if the bamboo is dry, hard and good.
I've also found that the ones with rind don't work well, if the rind is imperfect.
Mike are also of somewhat erratic quality, and I discard many, but this doesn't mind as I have an enormous supply for free.

How do they know its a Mk IV? We know it is but how do THEY know? I mean they're UK auctioneers for Pete's sake. We would normally expect a high level of incompetence and inaccurate information.

Indeed! I was the underbidder, and let it go because between the buyers premium at 34.8% and cost of transport from Glasgow, it would have been well above what it's worth to me. Well, with respect, I still think it was very good value indeed.
It all depends upon how much you want something - both in monetary terms and how much you can be bothered to secure the item.
