I have an Edison home Model D that I am cleaning up. The bed plate seems to have a shellac coating on it with a black pigment; this makes it a bit dull looking but also covers up the missing blue stripe in some spots

Which leads me to my questions: Any suggestions on gel pens or blue paint to touch up the missing blue stripe (that is silver)? Also, any thoughts on how to remove the shellac (without removing the striping too)?
