I first bought an HMV gramophone in 1973 and have had hundreds since but have never seen this. It’s gorgeous.what would fit inside? Perhaps a 156? Brian

The dimensions, particularly the tall doors and short legs, correspond more closely to the HMV157 than the 156.
It is indeed a very fine bespoke cabinet, but why would anyone commission something so exclusive and expensive to house the "works" of one of HMV's smaller and cheaper models?
Unfortunately the auctioneers have chosen not to publish the sale price (why not?) assuming that it did in fact sell.

The last time I glanced at the listing, a day or two before the auction, online bids had taken it to well above £400.

I owned a 162 in identical cabinet but what's odd about this one is the HMV decal in the lid. I've never seen a Chinoiserie cabinet with the trademark transfer inside........ever.
My 162 had gold plated innards, unique for this model. I sold it for £500.

Here is a different example by Waring & Gillow. This one has the HMV logo too.
