How was Donley's Hazelcorn Auction?

How was it? Did you get anything?
I know some folks were planning to attend, but I haven't seen any reports. Some of the sold prices on Donley's auction site were kind of surprising (high or low).

As a UK member of the APS it has always surprised me that although the magazine has full page advertisements for high profile auctions, there are never any reports of the results. By contrast the CLPGS magazine regularly reports on auctions in the UK.

Good!
But I particularly found the 2019 CLPGS auction much more memorable.
Maybe it was because it was the centennial year (1919-2019) and there were were 120 of us there in! A full room!
Maybe I was under the spell of being my first trip to England. But I found that auction much fuller and vivid.
It was also the first time I was in an auction devoted to our hobby...
Many 'first times' at the same time to produce an objective impression of that auction... Sorry fort that!

Well, I can vouch that I won one of those "passed" items, and I've paid for it. It (and a couple of other items) have already been shipped to me! I don't know why so many items on page 3 of the first day catalog were marked "passed."

I was expecting to see more common to scarce Victor and Columbia machines but they seemed notably absent. Is the market so depressed that consignors are not willing to take a risk by consigning such items?

I may be wading into waters I am not too familiar with.... [high end phonographs] but I can respond by saying this....
In my part of the country, the prices for common machines are HORRIBLE. I personally think you hit the nail on the head. If a consignor is concerned about having realize a certain selling price, this is not a good time to sell. It seems like the early and "high end" phonographs do seem to have a pretty good following, still - just my humble opinion.
It is a great time to BUY though,.....

This was the Howard Hazelcorn Auction. Howard collected early and esoteric phonographs and gramophones. You do not see any common models because he did not own any. It has nothing to do with various opinions about the current price of "regular" machines. It was a single estate auction and there were no "common" machines in the estate. - John
