I have compiled some highlights of the past weekend’s auction in Charlotte MI. This is by no means a comprehensive list. There were 100’s of machines at the auction. The prices I will list DO NOT include the 10% buyers Penalty or sales tax. There were way too many machines to sell in 2 days and the prices on common machines showed. Many rear mount victors went for under $1000. Many Edison standards and homes went for under $300. The rare or pristine still brought good money with a few exceptions. Gregg Cline

Thanks again for supplying the results of the auction. I see the rare machines went for big bucks while the other machines were very reasonable. I noticed that the more common machines have really dropped in value.

Thanks for taking the time to post. I was surprised to see the Mahogany Hexaphone went for less then the Oak Hexaphone. Also found it interesting that the Perfect Orginal Ideal only went for $15K when compared to the more common Opera that went for $12K. It isfun to see the auction results in this market. I wonder when things will settle out and become more stable.

Wish I could have been there... Is there a way to view the auction items..? ie: catalog, website etc...?

Just curious about the Eldridge Johnson M. Is it called this due to the E. Johnson name on the ID tag? Is that a rearmount or frontmount version? Also, is it like the common type cased Ms with the egg and dart moulding?

I'm very happy the Berliner hand-wind went for 175K. I will sell mine for 100K if anyone in interested.... .I just wish it was not a typo..... .Seems that the rare and hard to find were leading the pack again. I hope this puts most at ease regarding a collectable that is on the way out of favor. They are not!!!!.

Alot of the Victors II, IV, V, others seemed to go pretty low as did the some of teh more common Edisons even if they had Music Master horns, like the fireside. I'm surprised that the Edison Ideal went for only 15K. Can you describe it better? Was it complete with Ideal straight horn, 11 panel cygnet or music master?

The Ideal was a Model B machine with the front mount mahogany grained horn. This was the most perfect example that I have ever seen. The Oxidized finish was a 9.9 out of 10 and 100% original. It had the original oxidized reproducer, original oxidized recorder in the box, original crank, crane foot and tab, the crane was nickel plated and a replacement. the horn was an 8 of 10 with very minor paint loss. I was amazed that it went so low. It went to Europe.... I wish I would have bid on in now!

The Mahonagy hexaphone was poorly refinished.... I think polyurethane and had been messed with mechanically. The Oak was 100% original...even the original dirt. Just the way you want them!
