FOR SALE: 1929 Peerless Model 25 Radio/Phono w Kylectron Speaker

I have a 1929 Peerless model 25 radio/phonograph with Peerless's legendary Kylectron electrostatic speaker for sale. Peerless didn't make many Kylectron speakers in any configuration, and according to their ads, this stunning behemoth (pictures attached) was their top-of-the-line model. I don't know how many were made, but I have never seen, heard or read of another one, and suspect this one may be the only extant example. It is completely original and, with the exception of the phonograph, which I quickly got working again, unrestored. I have it listed on Ebay here: https://www.ebay.com/itm/185240636669

As you can see, the opening bid is $3000; HOWEVER, if someone here wants it and can pick it up here in Maine soon (or have someone else come get it soon), I can cut you a deal.

If interested, PM me or email me.

That is really interesting. I didn't know they even had electrostatic speakers then - and in the consumer market!

That is some ballast tube. I thought electrostatic speakers required really high voltages. In the KVolt range. Are there schematics anywhere??

Not much help.
One dial (primary tuning control knob)

Automatic volume control, described by manufacturer as "Constant gain."

The tube listing above reflects both the Model 25 specifications provided by United Reproducers at the 1929 RMA meeting and the Model 20 Series schematic. Model 25 had three 227 tubes and an unknown type of ballast tube as shown on the schematic.

"Kylectron" is United Reproducers Corp. brand of an electrostatic speaker (reproducer) which they claimed gave superior performance due to its unique, patented features.

From everything I've read, they're supposed have a very nice, bright, crisp sound. As I said, I haven't restored the radio, speaker and cabinet.

In response to a PM I just received, the cabinet is all-original, and has not been refinished.
