Still looking for someone to refinish my Edison Opera elbow. Reached out to Shenandoah Restorations but they don’t have anyone to do that any longer at the moment. Any leads? I’ve had my Opera motor and reproducer work on, just need the elbow to make it complete! Any leads or info most appreciated!

Is it oak or mahogany?

Great question - it’s mahogany. It’s in good shape too, minus the elbow.

I have a new repro elbow supplied by Wyatt's Americana, and has been grain-painted (mahogany) by my restorer. If this is of interest to you, please email me directly: [email protected]

Hi KCW, If you are still needing to have your elbow repainted, its really not too difficult, I repainted a mahogany elbow a few years back that really turned out good, once the old paint is off , just prime the metal then paint it the lighter tone first then the darker next letting some of the base color come through. You can practice on a scrap first . Have Sherwin Williams or a true paint store help you with your base and topcoat colors to match your horn bell and to the sheen you desire. If you've got an original, I wouldn't replace it with a reproduction. Here is a picture of a repainted then an original elbow. You could also ask at Sherwin Williams for a painter that does wood effect on entry doors Good Luck

One note that i would like to mention......When repainting / fau finishing the horn, don't forget the inside of the ring around the horn. Part of that shows when it is fitted in the elbow. They were that was from the beginning. It doesn't look good in my opinion to see nickel in there when looking at it. I have done this over the years to my 8 Operas. Looks good.
