Repro Orthophonic Back Brackets?

I went and broke the tonearm bracket, the hooded type with the pin to affix the top of the tonearm, for an orthophonic machine last night. Pot metal, argh. This particular one would be the same as for a Credenza.

I know these have been reproduced, but can’t remember who does it. Does anyone have the contact info for me, please? Thanks.

Will this work, the opening where it feeds into the horn is 1-11/16th diameter?
The holes are spaced 2 inches apart and there are 3 of them.

Was it Apsco ?

No, unfortunately. But thanks!

I’ll post a picture in a little while.

I've purchased and used the ones made by JAS Antiques before and they seem to work perfectly.
I emailed them about a month ago and was told that they are currently out of stock but should have more sometime around late March or early April.

JAS Antiques aka ladanjus on eBay has had them but I am not seeing any right now, of course. You might send a message:

Is a Consolette back bracket the same? I know there is something unique about the arm but not sure on the bracket.

I believe that JAS antiques made 2 versions of the back bracket: One for Consolette / 4-3 and one for the rest of the full size Orthophonic machines.

Is it a clean break? Believe it or not, I fixed the back bracket on a 2-55 once using Krazy Glue. Put a liberal coating on both parts and then press them together for about two or three minutes. It held unbelievably well. In fact, after the glue had set for about 20 minutes, I picked it up and the damn thing flew out of my hand and landed on the table. The glue still held! Something like this might work as a temp. fix.

Well, I learned a lot about these things today!

I was able to find the replacement part from George Vollema, and ordered it. Then I dremeled and chipped the old piece out and degreased the whole messy thing. There are 5 ball bearings in there so be careful when you do that.

The insert/hood part is essentially impossible to remove non-destructively. I opted to replace rather than repair because it was pretty cracked already, so I figured I’d just get it over with. Also it’s for a big 9-40 with that two-headed tonearm, which has the extremely heavy horseshoe magnet pickup AND an orthophonic reproducer cantilevered out at the end of the arm.

There are two sizes of back brackets and at least two base units. You can find a base unit that works on your machine, but the alignment of the back bracket might be for a centered tonearm (directly behind platter) or for an offset one (to the right side behind the platter.

So my huntin’ dawg and I actually found a couple that would fit, but that were wrong.

Thanks everyone for the advice.

I don’t ask for much…but can we once and for all make a replacement back bracket especially for the VV 2-60 portable model? 🙏🤞
