Oh dear! There are so many things wrong with this poor thing, it's hard to know where to start!

Oh yes.

I thought it may have had a very interesting history. As you say, so many things which seem odd.

I suppose the first thing I would have liked to know is if it still had the original internal horn.

Absolutely fantastic !

I look forward very much to reading about it on here - if you don't mind.

As I mentioned, very interesting and a good price. I can't wait !

Even that's debateable! I haven't seen many 112s, but the few that I have seen certainly don't have side catches to hold the lid in place, strange, clumsy record storage flaps with paper cut-out HMV labels stuck on, needle bins in the lid that are bodged up from something else, strange coverings over the internal horn, or enormous brass HMV plaques screwed to the front! If it WAS a 112 at one time, it's been extensively "got at".

There is no question it is a 112 but with that said I'm not sure of the purpose of the horn cover or why the additional needle bins were added or what in heavens name that ugly plaque is doing on it or the crude lid tray or the inappropriate 102 winding handle storage clips or the lid catches?

I have a pristine 112 and for those unfamiliar with the model it is a 101 type machine but with the deeper cabinet base to house a no. 32 motor. The external fittings are gilded whilst the internal fitments are nickel. Apart from the teak cabinet with much deeper base for the bigger motor, it is otherwise identical to a 101.

Looking more closely. It looks to me as though new case has been made to accommodate the original 112 motor and arm together with their respective boards.

The case does look correct. The problematic areas are obvious and managable - minus the record holder. If the horn is there, i am a happy camper, if not, well, bad luck.
