I honestly don't know what to think of this as I've never seen another one in person. I had it for years before I found out what it really was. I bought this on a rummage sale with my Dad so it has to be at least 35 years ago and he said it was a radio table. Years later I saw an old advertisement and learned that it was actually for a portable phonograph to sit on. When I got it, it had two pieces of terribly cut glass for the top with a doily of some sort put between the two pieces of glass. I had this packed away for a long time and must have tossed the glass as it's gone. I kind of wonder if it originally had a piece of sheet metal in that rim for the phonograph to sit on, or maybe if you have the right model it sits in that rim. Anyway, the opening on that rim is 16 ½" by 14 ⅜" so it might work for any number of "orthophonic era" portables. One of these sold about 6-8 years ago on ebay, but it was missing the tin shelf on the base, so at least this much of it's stayed with this one! I also do not know if there should be two more of those filigree decorations on the back under the shelf. I never had them so I don't know what to say on that. I can't really tell by looking if anything was ever there or not but there are screw holes for them. I will take this all apart to send it as it shouldn't be too much trouble to put back together and it will travel better that way. I also think the paint is original. It's a nice sturdy thing and it does have some weight to it. On the hoof it comes in at around 25 pounds! Well, if you have any questions do feel free to ask. Thanks now.
