Vic R- good deal?

I've been offered this Vic R for $500. It does have the horn, with the zinc bell I believe, as there's far more paint loss on the bell. It comes with a nice early 78 carrying case. What it DOESN'T come with is a turntable or a reproducer.
Thoughts?

There are mixed pros and cons. The carrying case, if original, is a pro. Cons include finding the right sound box and turntable. It is a small turntable and 10 inch records will play, but it is designed for the smaller seven and eight inch discs. Before deciding, check out the availability and cost of the missing parts.

Pictures would be helpful in determining value.

I believe he has a 7" turntable that's a bit worn. I think I'll cheap out and go for one of the soldered long throat backs unless I can, by some small miracle, find a good repro or original long throat back

That looks to be in great condition, especially the motor board. Often those are either corroded dark or polished to shiny copper. I'd go for it. Finding a turntable should be possible and you can use a modified Exhition for the time being. Having an original horn in reasonable condition is another plus.

Congratulations
Andreas

I agree that that bed plate looks very nice and they often do not. I'd scoop it up.

Good Luck!
