Does the greenish interior of a Graphophone QC have any significates?? I had this nice little machine for sale at the Wayne show on Sunday, serial No. 359081 and was told by a so-called Graphophone expert that the case and the machine were a miss-match. I really found it hard to believe due to the fact that I acquired the machine complete with horn, bentwood case, correct key and reproducer together at an estate sale years ago but I have no problem being educated.. I've included a couple of pictures for reference but from what I saw in Howard Hazelcorn's reference book everything appears to be correct. Also did any other Graphophone cases have this greenish tint??
Thanks in advance

Gary,
A beautiful green oak lid, with a beautiful decal, but unless I'm mistaken -- and I may be -- it would have gone on a later Q with an enameled, decorated cast iron bedplate. And the base would have been green oak too, not antique oak. That's what I told you at the show. I did not say that there was anything wrong with a green oak cabinet, per se, for a Q. I've seen plenty of them. Nor did I tell you that I was any kind of Graphophone expert. Right lid or wrong lid, when I was driving back from Wayne yesterday, I regretted having not purchased it from you. It had a very nice original horn, and the lid was just great. Sorry for any miscommunication. Hope you had a good time in Wayne.

Hi Grant,,, wish I knew that was you I was talking with.. I figured early on that somebody was just trying to beat me up on the price.. LOL I should have rephrased my comment that the person I was talking to came off as a Graphophone expert which I feel you certainly could fit in that category..
I was not aware that the "Q" even came with an enameled, decorated cast iron bedplate.
As I said in my post, I'm always glad to get an education and that is a huge, free benefit of attending shows. I had a great time seeing everyone again as well as keeping my wife happy by selling a few items.
Hope to see you in September..

There were definitely some VERY green Qs, but as Grant suggests, they appear to be later. All of those I've seen have had the painted / decorated base. The tint can vary from fairly light to almost absurdly deep. Here's my current green Q -- I've had others in the past.

Thanks for the information. It also appears the reproducer is the larger diameter #7 opposed to the #3 which came on my machine..

I got this one a few years ago from Bob Schuljak. I suspect he remembers it. It's so green it almost glows.

Thats a beauty. Even the governor arrangement is totally different from my machine.

Yes, the governor was changed when they switched to the enameled base.

Seems that the consensus is that most, if not all "Qs" with the green tint were most likely the second style "Q" with the painted bedplate and filigreed winding key instead of the flat winding key. In addition the #7 reproducer was supplied instead of the slant-neck #3 as per Howards reference book. Now to find a cardboard case for my 1st style machine which may be worth more then the machine and then flip the correct green tint cover to the appropriate 2nd style.
Thanks Rene & Grant for the very informative information.
