The Phonograph Shop - Placing Orders

Still receiving feedback about our slowness 🙂. Thank you it is all welcome and we hear you.

To address the feedback…

If you order from the site your experience will greatly improve and should be processed quickly as we have those items inventoried and in many cases have prepared for shipping. There is too much ambiguity in an email otherwise and the delays between responses cause confusion.

For this reason we have made the decision to discontinue all email orders unless explicitly approved. If you are reading this or have an email account you are using the internet 🙂 so your cooperation is appreciated.

Also, as a reminder, we do not take social media orders. No other company, that I am aware of, does this so that expectation needs to adjust. Questions are welcome but we will redirect all orders and pricing inquiries to the site, without exception.

You are welcome to call (704.995.9142) any night M-F between 6-9PM EST to place an order. This will allow any questions or concerns to be discussed completely and arrive at a determination on the order.

We have day jobs. If you call before then you will most likely be disappointed with our slow response or my forgetfulness while I am focused on other, higher priorities.

If you have concerns with any of these changes feel free to reach out via the stated order hours to discuss your situation and how to handle.

As always, thank you and happy hunting.

These seem like reasonable changes. This is a hobby after all. I think you have discovered why Ron didn't deal with emails, and why Wyatt's Musical Americana's use of them is extremely limited.

As for slowness, I think we should all be grateful that you have re-established a dependable source of reasonably priced restoration parts for the hobby. I know many of us weren't sure what to expect with Ron's passing.

I think a lot of people are spoiled by Amazon Prime with 2 day delivery on many items. I like and use Amazon on occasion. But Amazon doesn't sell phono parts, and it is unreasonable to expect that level of speed from a phonograph parts supplier that operates as a part-time after-hours business.

Just my thoughts on the matter. Your work is appreciated by many of us.

I echo what AZ wrote. In fact, I'll double down.

To complain about the speed at which a person IN THEIR FREE TIME supplies you with an otherwise unobtainable part seems to me the definition of entitlement. A year ago the collecting community was panicking. "A grateful heart is a happy heart."

Thank you for the invaluable service you provide, Brian!

Brian is really trying hard to do his best, and in my opinion succeeding very well. I have spoken to him several times about various business operational matters, and he is definitely on the right track. Everybody has to remember, he is Brian, not Ron, and entitled to run his business his way. I am grateful for his investment and sincerity, as should everybody.

What slowness? I placed a order in the morning and received a tracking number by four that same day! I went through the website and paid with PayPal. I had no problems ordering and was amazed a tracking number was given that same day. I will continue to purchase everything I can from here and have passed on the information to other friends of mine.

Let me start by saying- your business, your rules. :D

That said- for those of us on the West Coast with the 3 hour time difference, to only be available on workdays during very abbreviated working hours can sure be problematic. I don't know if there's any convenient way to fix this or not. I liked Ron but he was a popular guy and his line seemed always busy. I was stoked to see you were offering an online ordering system. For me, this was an essential improvement for sure.

In my personal situation, being self employed and consulting sometimes until 2 AM and having to be scarce because I can't Zoom and answer calls back or call out at the same time, email is a SUPER convenient tool. In fact, I do all my auto parts buying from the EU and Turkey via email because it's really tough to connect, esp with all the time differences.

Maybe those of us who need email could open buying accounts. For me, on phono and gramo hobby stuff, taking a while to fill an order isn't an issue- not like needing a Porsche part drop shipped to a shop in Asia with the car dead on a hoist! All that said, I'm not buying a couple thousand a month in gramo parts, either, so I understand you need to make decisions based on that.

Thoughts?

Ditto for me, I bought some items the other night and the next morning an invoice and tracking number were already in my inbox. A very simple, efficient system.
