That's a neat accessory where the dog opens and closes it's mouth to control the volume.

To the right of the case there is something propping up the horn.

Yes! If not, poor horn! But I can imagine someone calling the dog, then the dog jumps happily to the new visitor and ruins the horn, the prop and the complete gramophone!!
