Here’s something on eBay I saw that’s pretty unusual… someone turned a model E home into a internal horn floor machine.

Thanks for the post. It's an interesting machine. Years ago I remember reading about some custom cabinets that re-housed Amberola 30 mechanisms. The cabinets were much more compact than a typical Amberola 30 cabinet. I also remember the grill that featured the same style "E" that's featured in the script decal "Edison." Perhaps the grill spelled "Edison." The featured machine in this post appears related to the ones in my memory.

I have seen images of this machine floating around for a while as a "home made cabinet", but I think Ive seen 4 or so different machines in similar cabinets with the "e" grill over the years. I suspect these are period correct retail cabinets made in small quantities, but I could be wrong.

Ngl, I would love to have something like that. I guess for people to keep their old machines up to date. Great stuff if you’re just planning to play BA’s. Hopefully there’s a Model O for playing old fashioned wax records too…

It would be an interesting research project, if someone could comb the archives of old periodicals in search of ads for the business that made these... could it have been an attempt by Edison jobbers to upgrade old stock in the Amberola era, or...?

There was, of course, the Babson cabinet, into which one could drop an Amberola 30, case and all; but that would not be considered 'more compact'. The only machine I recall, where the grille actually spelled out 'Edison', was the prototype for the DD 'School' Phonograph.
