Hi All- I've been digging through stuff in the garage and uncovered this crane that I've had for a number of years... I assume it's for a cygnet--but that's just an educated guess.

Can anyone ID it's maker? I've only seen the two-piece Edison cygnet cranes -

This is all one piece-- 31" tall (roughly the same as an Edison crane)-- It is well-made-- smooth consistent curve, solid ball on the top end and a strong chain connection. About 7/16" in diameter-- It fits nicely into a standard Edison cygnet bracket, but the remaining nickle plating on the bottom end shows that it's original holder covered more of the shaft than an Edison bracket.

Please take a look and let me know if you can help ID it.

It does not look like a "homemade" piece to me.. (I have one of those , too)

Possibly the top section for a floor crane?

Could be to a floor crane--...but.... It is quite heavy. I've had several floor cranes (still have two) and they are nowhere near as heavy as this crane.

Could this be home made? Cygnet cranes are two piece and there is usually a pin at the base of the rod to fit securely in the bracket.

I agree with Ken, it looks homemade to me.

To me, it looks a little too well made to be home made.
You'd need better tools than most home workshops have to make the seperate knob on the end, and to attach the loop for the chain, which I assume is secured inside the rod before the knob is inserted.
If it was home made I think it would more likely have the end just rounded off with a groove around the rod to wrap wire around to form the chain loop.
It's hard to tell from the pictures, but it appears it was all nickel plated too, and the thinner gauge chain added later.
It does look quite heavy, so perhaps along with the table or floor base, its weight helped make the stand more stable?
