I've seen amputations before, but this one has me totally stumped. I can't quite figure out what they did to make it look like this was originally without record storage.

Who it may be... he was incredibly careful! I cannot see any cuts not any clues to how it has been made!

But it retains the very useful record storage slats!

There is a little part of me that almost likes these chopped models that seem to periodically pop up.... We all know them when we see them. Most of the time I only see the record storage areas chopped down with the lid immediately over the 2 storage doors. Could you imagine having a room with a few of these? Maybe my strange side is showing... Have a good weekend, everybody!

I don't care how it was made, the price he is asking is way too high.

Price is too high, and the Victrola is too low!
Still a neat bit of customization but you'd have to put it up on a table or something to wind it.

Way out of left field, here: what if it was a special modification for a 'little person', who had the means to order it? Imagine if there were documentation that it once belonged to Harry Earle, or similar...

Doubt it came from the factory like that. If you look at the legs the one on the right has a line where the finish is noticeably different near the bottom, and the lines of the legs don't flow smoothly through that point. Not really a bad job, just doesn't look like something the factory would put out to me.

I believe the legs were cut off above the top hinge mortice and the bottoms of the legs were cut off a grafted back on, or new feet were made.

As for why, I was thinking maybe it was modified so it could be operated by someone in a seated position, possibly in a wheelchair.
