I recently got some Videotapes from Jerry B of a couple of shows from back in the 90s, and It got me thinking. decided to have another of my famous really specific questions because it also involves my other hobby which is amateur motion picture film.

Ok I’ve seen many still photographs of early shows BUT During the early shows say back in the 70s and 80s, did anyone ever bring a Super-8 camera to the shows or does anyone have Super-8 footage of Phono shows from the 70s and 80s?

Seeing those tapes had me thinkin’.

I don’t know about home movies of phonograph shows, but does anyone have the link to the film that H. Brevoort O’Dell made of the parties at John Bieling’s house with so many pioneer recording artists there? I can’t seem to find it in the usual places. Appears that it’s been taken-down on YouTube.

This would be an exciting thread to see some discoveries in. There was a "Phono-Vention" some time ago that had a wax cylinder recorded & placed in a time capsule. Was this in 2005? There was a piece of music, entitled "The Phono-Vention Rag," written for the occasion. A cylinder isn't cine film but both are inventions from the old Edison Laboratories.

Based on my own experiences taking cameras to phonograph shows, I'd be surprised if anyone had the time or occasion to take any films! Even the North Carolina swap and show, not nearly as large as Union, etc., is still delightfully overwhelming. Food, records, machines, antiques, and a live bluegrass band playing period instruments make those shows well worth the attending.

Looking forward to hearing more of this topic.

On YouTube, there is a fair amount of footage from the 1995 and 1997 Union shows as well as the 1996 Mechanical Music Extravaganza back when it was still being run by Lynn Bilton, but I have yet to see any footage from earlier shows. BTW, when did the phonograph shows first start to take place here in the US? The earliest references that I have seen related to them is from 1978, but it is possible that the shows occurred even earlier.

I was gifted footage from the 1999 Union show by Jerry B. And also I have some footage taken in someplace in San Francisco and I couldn’t believe the amount of Vic VI’s and Edison Operas lined up with each other.

Well! I was WAAAY off on that location! San Flippo, San Francisco…Ahh never mind!! I still haven’t watched the whole video!

Was this Sanfilippo’s home? Was he a multimillionaire with great taste?

Man if I had his money this is exactly what I would do. Forget gold toilets and a professional chef for my dog, This is what I would use my millions for!

I did some research on Jasper Sanfilippo and it turns out his family owns Fisher’s Nuts!

All those packages of mixed nuts I see in the store bought all those amazing machines! WOW!

Does anybody here buy Fisher nuts to support the collection or in dedication of him?
