The R was a steal at that price.

Yes, it sold for a hammer price of $800. That strikes me as very, very low.

I consulted my copy of Reiss. He references the rigid arm only with respect to Victor's Royal model. One gets the impression that the rigid arm was found only on that model, yet it appears on Type E, M, and MS, possibly other models as well. Reiss gives the rigid-arm Royal a five-star rating and no price estimate, only the comment that few have survived. This confuses me, as taken together a goodly number of rigid-arm machines have survived, although by no means common.

I know the auction house and have attended its auctions in the past, most recently for my brother who was interested in an early fowler (I got it for him). Had I know this machine was available, I probably would have driven the two hours it takes to get there despite the current price of gas. There were many other interesting things sold that day for which I know the auctioneer often gets good prices.

So, is there something about the Victor rigid-arm Royal that sets it apart from all other rigid-arm models that garners it a five-star rarity rating and makes it priceless?

What a nice elbow! A nice elbow in the old days sold for $700. Where was this auction?

Also, the Concert reproducer is unique to the Rigid Arm machines and normally go for close to $1K. I believe there was a very nice Rigid Arm R at one of the Stanton's auction that brought close to $6K. I am not sure if the horn on this one is correct but it isn't a detraction. Victor R horns have a black painted zinc bell. A crank shouldn't be that hard to find.
Congrats to the high bidder. Is it someone from the Forum?

WOW! What a Steal!
I wouldn't be surprised if we soon see this again on Ebay marked up with a hefty price!

Everyone's a sucker for stuff that's got Edison on it (must be rare, right? That's THE Edison!)
