Evolution of the Edison Concert

Is there any more precise description of the evolution of the Edison Concert phonograph than what is found in the Frow book, ie

1899 with all enveloping cover – only concert cylinders
1901 New style cabinet
1903 Edison Bell New Duplex
1904 Motor suspended on springs
1905 Edison Bell Duplex
1906 in Triumph style case

For example, why do some 1899 models have the serial number stamped on a raised piece of the casting and others not. And why some 1899 style have a standard and removable concert mandrel?

Also what type of adaptors to play cylinders were available to add to the Concert Phonograph, eg Polyphon, Bettini, Auxetophone....

There also seems to have been a French company that „bought“ edison concert mechanics, decorated them themselves and made a cabinet for them, so that they could be marketed as "French Made"?

many thanks
