Eric Fenby, who was employed by Delius as his amanuensis (look it up) listens to the EMG which Delius once owned.
Given that the pictures of Fenby show an old man who was only 28 when Delius died in 1934, perhaps he inherited it.
Where is it now?

Very interesting photos Roger and many thanks for posting them. Where did you find them ? They show a Mk Xa as far as one can see and here is an appreciation used by Ginn in his advertising. In that case the instrument would probably have been a Mk VIII ?

Fascinating to see the rather parlous way in which the Xa is supported on a light-weight overhung construction---possibly with the idea of reducing unwanted resonance ?!

Is that suspended in mid air? I can't see how it's supported apart from one visible and slender strut on the right hand side of the picture.

It's certainly a very odd arrangement. A small child or pet could walk under it.

It appears as if Mr. Fenby could literally fit inside the horn.

I believe the 1928 letter refers to a Mk VIII which Delius had first, and I seem to remember posting here some time ago that I read in Eric Fenby's book that Delius later upgraded to a newer instrument. Wonderful to see it - many thanks! Yes, it really would be amazing to find out where it is now and whether the provenance has been preserved.

Graham, I am sometimes caught out by the way in which attachments appear here in the reverse order to which they were added.
The first picture was found on line after searching images of Eric Fenby. This search was prompted by the second picture, which I uploaded first, and which is for sale on eBay in Australia. Here is the link :

Many thanks again Roger and I was lucky enough to find a second copy with a Google search which is enlargeable (click on image) and which clearly shows that it is indeed a Mk Xa with a four-spring soundbox, as one might expect.

I see the eBay photo is now sold.

I can't get over that stand! Must be very strong steel to support such a heavy gramophone. But to great effect - looks magical!

It looks like the sort of table that hospitals and care homes have, to position over a bed...

possibly it is bolted to the wall? I've heard of many people doing this to reduce issues with bouncy floors.
