I’m offering my Columbia model BC “20th Century” cylinder phonograph for sale. This model is equipped with a 6” mandrel and the large 4” diaphragm-equipped Higham mechanically amplified reproducer. The installed stylus appears to play both two and four minute records satisfactorily. In addition, this particular BC comes equipped with a repeater and 2-4 minute combination attachment. The included brass horn has a larger than normal opening which allows it to fit over the reproducer outlet opening. The horn has a hanger attached to allow it to be supported by a crane (not included) For best performance the horn should be supported by a crane.
The carriage feed gearing can be changed to play either 2 or 4 minute cylinders. The 6 inch long mandrel makes this a very versatile phonograph for various records, including the 6 inch long 20th Century records as well as the 2 or 4 minute [4 inch long] records that are more commonly available. Use of the repeater is not recommended when playing wax records.
This is quite a scarce item. It is unclear just how many were produced in this configuration but I think it is fair to say that it is hard to find a BC that has all of the features which this one has . This one has a spring-driven motor with three large springs, but at least one example with an electric motor exists.
The price is $4200. Must be picked up in southeast Michigan.
