That's a perfect example of the old adage, "If you think education is expensive, try ignorance."
In this case, it was an ignorant seller and an educated buyer.

For the record, the reproducer in question is a No. 10. Bargain indeed!

That's a very cool reproducer; is that the one off the first Victor VI's? Never really see them around.
Whoever got this, is a lucky collector for sure. I'd have been pretty tickled to find a Victrola VIII in that good condition, if the price was more reasonable, but that No. 10 reproducer is one of those things more talked about than ever actually found!

Yes Sir! I am proud to say that I am the happy new owner of that beautiful early VV-VIII with the VICTOR No. TEN reproducer. Serial no.100.
With that being sad. I have a question. In my years of collecting this is the first early VV-VIII that I have seen that has the needle cup holder like the early VV-IX and not like the typical VV-VIII needle cup holder that fits into the corner. The needle cup holder looks to be original and in the correct place as there are no extra screw holes from one previously being mounted in the corner like typical VV-VIII machines. The VV-VIII is in really nice condition and I have a buddy who is wanting to buy it, but I honestly think I will keep it and leave the two mated together for right now. I know it is a difference of about ten years or so as far as the era of each, but until I start playing records on this VV-VIII I will just leave the VICTOR No. TEN on it. If anyone has an answer to my needle cup question I would appreciate it.
Thank you. Ben

Sorry my question was what year or years (if any) did the early VV-VIII have a needle cup holder like the early VV-IX?
Thank you. Ben

Beautiful machine, congratulations! I for one don't think it was overpriced!
I can't answer your question about the needle holder date, but FYI an example of each type is shown here:

Hi Congrats! You were at the right place at the right time. What an incredible find!! Sometimes those Buy It Now listings can reveal some treasures. I recently got an Edison Automatic reproducer for $75-- and later an Edison crank for $10..
Your VIII is correct-- The early machines had the two hole needle holder, flat, female crank towards the front of the case and a motor that has the wide gear spacing. Yours looks very nice-- In my opinion it isn't worth $575, but I guess that gold reproducer thing made up the difference
Again- Congrats!!
