Looking at this 1920-21 victrola xvi i notice its been refinished, What would have been the original finish options for this machine? I have a feeling its the standard mahogany but the grain pattern looks different. Thanks everyone

Definitely refinished and probably mahogany, possibly American walnut, but would need to see more pics.

The finisher left the decal intact. That would be the original finish. If you have a good picture of the inside of the lid, please post it.

The grain looks like Mahogany to me. Unless you want a finishing project, I would pass on that one.

Here are the basic wood finish options for Victrolas -- http://www.victor-victrola.com/Wood%20F ... ectory.htm

Looks like it's dark red mahogany.

My advice to you is to strip that decal area. The one thing that's more of a pain in the ass than refinishing a machine, is trying to match a spot of existing finish.

My plan was to completely redo the cabinet, I have experience refinishing and motor work. we got to the guys place, and he said that the stuff had been given away, (much to my dissapointment) the guy had a beat up vv-ix he gave me. He also had some nice radios he gave me and some good diamond discs. It ended up working out great anyway. One of the diamond discs i got was five foot two eyes of blue by the cali ramblers. Thanks for the help anyway guys!
