I had to smile reading on page 32 that for Christmas Caruso gave 20-dollar gold pieces to the 80 Metropolitan Opera orchestra members but the chorus members got only $2.50!

While the gold pieces were about 400.00
Total outlay, the better part of fifty-thousand dollars?
Generous guy, by most people's standards.
