Hello all,

I recently bought a grouping of cranks. This one I'm not sure of. It's about the same size as an outside Victor. The knob is different as photoed. I'd appreciate knowledgeable input. It's ¼" female type. What does this match up to?

I'd say it's Paillard.
In the USA, Paillard's biggest customer was Sonora, so there's a good chance it's from a Sonora, but Ive had literally a dozen or more various off brand machines over the years with Paillard running gear and this same style ¼" female threaded type crank.

I personally didn't think it was rude. I've been collecting for over fifty years, and I didn't recognize it. I looked at the various cranks on my many machines, and I didn't see any similarities so I didn't hazard a guess. In the initial post, the OP asked for "knowledgeable input."

But there are enthusiastic people with only minimal knowledge who are keen to respond.

I think the OP's response was OK.

The response was rude… this is a public forum where everyone should have free input.. the best response should have been thanks, but I don’t believe it’s Edison and stop…many times even seasoned collectors can overlook the obvious and it’s good to have a second set of eyes…

We have been fighting for years on ways to build up this hobby, yet we keep trying to show how smart we are by tearing each other down…

Everyone just ask how their Mother would respond….I know my Mother would never respond in such a way…

Posting the thread size and the crank’s diameter might help with the identification, or at least eliminate certain machines.

It's definitely a Paillard crank.

Whether or not this was rude, it clearly was not helpful either, because it did not explain why it was "clearly not an Edison". People like me, who have only collected phonographs for 24 years, still have lots to learn. That's why I read the TMF daily.
