Just bought this rather unusual Puck phonograph, I wonder if the colours are original. Anyone has seen another like this?

If you do a google image search for "Mermaid puck phonograph" you'll find dozens of images of other examples of this style of puck.
I've never examined one of these in person so I can't really comment on the originality of the paintwork but if you go through the Google images it may help to confirm whether your paintwork is original or not.

It is a «puck» model called Nymphe. It appears in the catalogue of the manufacturer Georges Carette in 1911.

So from what I see the catalogue says either black or guilt.
Merci pour l'info Julien.

I wonder, were these made by just one company, or replicated by several manufacturers for a decade like the Lyre based Puck?
Are there any foundry marks or initials pressed in the casting on the underside of the base?

My puck was made by George Carette & Co, and has the foundry mark as pictured below.

Perhaps the original owner was a gentleman who preferred blondes ;) .

If I recall, these later machines (painted) derive from the earlier (1905) Sirene model (which mermaid was "gilded")...(and imported to US).
Inspirationally, they could well be traced back to Homer's Odyssey (although there, their beauty was not physical).

I believe the colours are original which makes this rare example even more appealing.
