Hello ! Has anybody here lately heard from Mr Ian Calderbank? I hope some of you know that he is a renowned gramophone collector and writes about these machines on his website- http://www.gramophones.info/index.html .

Mr Calderbank is a very knowledgeable and helpful person who has a track record of responding to his emails within hours. However, of late he has not responded to my several emails. I hope he is fine and doing well and busy in more important projects. I will appreciate if any of you bring me a update on him. Thanks

I think he retired a while back.

His website was last updated om 11th September 2022.

i was told today that Ian has passed away RIP

I am very sorry to hear that. He was an extremely kind and knowledgeable man always willing to help anyone who needed his assistance. RIP Ian.

I'm so sorry to read this. I recall his website about gramophones among the very early ones that surfaced on the internet, one of those that gave me the first knowledge about relevant brands and models when I began to dig seriously into the matter, and has been saved in my "favourites" list ever since. May he rest in peace.

Very sad news indeed! My first gramophone was a small tabletop HMV Model 1a from eBay which had an incorrect tonearm and reproducer installed. I found Ian's website and contacted him to understand which parts I needed to correctly complete my machine. He was so friendly and helpful to a newbie he never met and definitely helped keep the phono flame burning inside me. I later purchased his book about HMV machines which helped me quite a few times. His passing is a big loss for the hobby.

Sorry to hear this... may he rest in peace, and family and friends be comforted to have had the luck to meet such a wonderful guy.

I recall talking to Ian a few times over the phone and corresponding with him many years ago but I don't think I ever met him in person. Still, it's yet another upstanding member of our fragile and very small community now sadly gone.
