All the colours of the rainbow

It is maddening, somewhere, someplace on some forum I read about the different colours that were used on gramophones and I can´t remember where.
It described the different finishes you could find on the machines back in the day. Wood-y colours in all shades of course, but there were also red lacquer finishes and white and also black and some with Chinese motives, you know, the kind you see at Wongs Dragon garden, Chinese chippy.
And some done with a black piano black glossy mirror finish. Now that I like.... a lot.
I recently got my hands on a rather cute 1915 gramophone that had a black or a very dark finish and I am exploring what it would look like with a high gloss surface.
So what do you think?

I too like the variety of finishes that were available on our treasured machines. It would be nice to see a photo of the machine in question. Here's a photo of my latest project. I need a donor XVI for the mechanical parts.

Here's a description (and some photos) of the
some of the custom finishes available to Victor customers --

Thanks for that. The Victrola thread wasn´t the one I was looking for, but it´s basically the same thing and very interesting indeed and I do like that red gram.
I took a closer look under a decent light and now know that it is a rather lightweight Oak/Pine frame stained in Walnut, so I am going to go with that. I am going to take the lid and the door to the local carpenter and ask to have the broken veneer planed off and replace it with perhaps a walnut veneer. I´ll see what the guy suggests.
All in all it´s a tight and tidy little machine, it sounds great and I am quite pleased with it.
