This is a Kalamazoo Duplex restoration project which I simply don’t have time to complete. These machines in all original condition are VERY hard to come by. This one would give some collector a good start and a fun project to start the new year.

The case is very nice but needs a bottom. The oak bottom shown just needs an ogee router edge, matching finish and positioned to serve as a sturdy bottom.
The blue tape has the measurement. The case also has the speed control plate and knurled adjustment screw.

The motor is a Columbia 2-spring motor that has almost the same configuration as the Duplex motor. The mounting holes are slightly different as indicated in the template I am including. The modified holes in the motor frame will alter the original case mounting holes. This motor is in good shape but needs minor governor to drive gear adjustment to run smoothly. All gears are sharp and the motor has been cleaned and springs lubricated.

The horn support arm is a good solid reproduction cast in bronze. It needs nickel plating if you so choose. The turntable is the one that goes with the Columbia 2-spring motor.

Included are two Hawthorne and Sheble 42” horns which are made for the Duplex. These horns are really hard to find. One bell is in great shape. The other can be easily smoothed out by a musical instrument repair shop that does brass instruments like French horns and tubas. The bodies on both horns are straight with no dents.

I can include plenty of photos which shows other items you will need to complete this rare machine. I also can supply the names of two collector/fabricators who can possibly supply the reproducer and other small parts you may need.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news…The horns are H and S horns but are not Duplex Horns…At least the one horn has a hanger (I bet the other does too) and the narrow ends are too narrow… Duplex horns were suspended by a yoke that attached to the horns directly with a swivel nut/bolt and did not have the hanger strap for a ring…Holes were positioned directly in the horns for placement of the horns to the yoke and crossmember ..the narrow opening was larger than traditional horns so that the rubber elbows fit inside rather than on the outside….

The yokes have been reproduced in the past also for someone to locate for this machine.

Thanks for the comment. I have seen these H & S horns used for Duplex as the size is the same.
There are many photos on-line that show these narrow end horns which can still use the rubber
reproducer connectors for both horns. If someone wants to compete this machine, they can
get a quality repro reproducer from Paul Baker. As you know, original parts are really tough to
come by. These machines were mail order and only available for a very short time.
They were ahead of their time in concept although the double sound was by no means stereo.
