For Sale: Oak Brunswick with single Altona tone-arm
Posted: Tue Jan 03, 2023 5:26 pm
Well, the Brunswick is done and while I don't imagine anyone on this board being interested, I figured I'd post it before putting it on FaceBook Marketplace.
I'm only selling this for what I have into it (which shows it doesn't pay to fix these things up for profit but instead to make sure they survive and move on to folks who will use and appreciate them. Here's a breakdown of the prices:
$10 paid for the machine at a Habitat For Humanity ReStore
$90 for two mainsprings (including shipping) from the Phonograph Shop (thanks Brian!)
$55 for reproducer, tonearm, gasket material, and shipping (to use as parts to replace broken pot metal and rebuild reproducer)
$40 for another reproducer for other parts (all parts included in this sale)
For a grand total of:
$195 for the machine, pickup only of course. I'll post this on FaceBook as well including a couple of Brunswick records in sleeves and new needles.
You can follow the cleanup/rebuild thread on this forum.
Here's a video of it working, thanks to a couple of members for the suggestion to take apart and clean the governor shaft, it was the final, missing piece in the story of this!

If you like to work on the mechanics of these, probably not the machine for you as the springs, grease, et al are brand new (man, those original Brunswick springs are FRAGILE). But if you like cabinet work this could be for you. Stain on the top of the lid (but good veneer), little things that a normal person wouldn't notice, but still work to do in order to make this perfect. I did go over it with GOJO but haven't done any Feed-n-wax or anything like I normally would do.
This is the machine when I first got it... This is after replacing both mainsprings and giving everything a good clean. Check out the rebuild post
for pics of how absolutely caked in old, hard grease this was.
After a thorough clean of the insides... Showing the difference from one door to another how far a little GoJo will go...
