CL - Mid-Century Modern Edison C-150 ;) - Coquitlam, BC

Coquitlam is a suburb of Vancouver, on the north side of the Fraser River.

$495 CDN, about $365 US, £306, or €346.

It could almost be a totally cool re-imagining of the machine if the woodwork were teak and were a little less high-schoolish and if there were a funky smoked Plexiglas dust cover.

A rare B&O and Edison collaboration?

That was more probably a C-250 Chippendale at one point given the double springs and gold-plated hardware. Whoever "reconstructed" it definitely forgot that machines like this leak oil...

Oh I'm sorry--with the wooden skeleton, the iron gearing, and the crank just sticking out there into space, all I can see there is a corn-sheller!

I'm not about to make one of my own, but I like it! No harm done, assuming it was made from spare parts or that the cabinet was beyond hope.

Unable to find an Amberola 1A for sale in the UK, my old friend Joe Pengelly (1924-2020) made his own from genuine 1A parts.
It featured a modified elbow which enabled an external horn to be fitted as an alternative to the Amberola internal horn.
Apologies for the old and indistinct pre-digital image.

It looks like Thomas Edison's personal Diamond Disc machine. edisonplayer

I'm glad I saw this thread. I have been thinking of doing something similar with some leftover Victor parts, except I was envisioning a Victorian/steam punk design.

Well ... if you are not going to do the Steam Punk thing which would be cool in itself .... have the smoked Plexiglass/Perspex dust cover fabricated for the "modern" look. ;)
