What to Buy?

Hi All,
I have no large open horn disc machines. If I was going to buy just one to add to my collection which in the boards opinion should it be. I have been looking at the Victor I through Victor V and prefer a wood horn over metal as well as oak finish I wish I could say that cost is not an issue but I would be a liar. I play all of my machines so what would be the "best" model (if there is such a thing) that would provide the best sound and performance, all things being equal for the buck?

I'd vote for a Vic V. Triple spring, 12-inch turntable, identical to the Vic 6 except for the gold pillar doodads and plating.
Prices seem to be good for buyers. One went for just over 2k on ebay last week, with a wood horn with only small issues.
If you know what to look for and what questions to ask, I think it'd be pretty easy to find something nice out there for a reasonable price. Good luck.

If it's a machine that you'll play quite a bit, you can't go wrong with a V but a III is a good looking machine. The III is much more common but it's a fine player. If it's not a machine that will be played often, a fancy case MS or D is arguably the best looking machine that Victor ever sold. Jerry Blais
