I just purchased a European Odeon from a lady and it had a box of European and some other foreign records. Most have what appears to be some kind of stamp. Not sure if mailed or are they " tax" stamps

The green gramophone records, the Regal and the Odeons are all Spanish, and that red Decca too! These are the records I have plenty of! The small stamps are the recipe for royalties, and are signed or stamped with the names or signatures of the authors.

Wonderful records indeed !

I would love to have these in my collection. Great finds.

The Fonotipia Company of Milan was the first to record exclusively from the classical repertoire. It was closely connected with Odeon, and both companies became part of the Lindstrom Group. Fonotipia records are highly collectable.
The example pictured is an American pressing. To compete with Victor's Red Seal celebrity records, Columbia acquired the rights to issue Fonotipia's operatic recordings in the USA. This arrangement lasted from about 1908 to 1910.

Also UK Columbia pressed fonotipia recordings from one given moment. I have one UK Columbia no.826 or so with early Odeon recordings by John McCormack, from original Odeon matrixes

Columbia also issued a series of McCormack's 10.75 inch Odeons on their Regal label.
These were Irish ballads and were given G5000 catalogue numbers.

In 1916 the German Government seized the assets of The Gramophone Company as enemy property, and sold them to Polyphon.
The British Government seized the assets of the Lindstrom Group, and Columbia acquired the Odeon matrices in the UK.
