I bought this HMV machine yesterday, cheaply, since no one else really wanted it! It is the first time I have seen a HMV tone arm that is broken, really. I may or may not have a spare tone arm somewhere, but the horn looks good, as well as the cabinet, and also what to my eyes look like an Exhibition Junior sound box. I will get the machine in early May when the owner is back from long time vacation.
To my eyes this is a German DGAG machine, from around 1915-16, due to the typical German horn, as well as the Junior Exhibition, and manual brake found on the machine. The winder, not shown on the photo, has internal threads. About timing, correct me, if I am wrong, of course.

What I don't know though is...what would be the correct model name for this machine? Is it an Intermadiate Monarch, or not a Monarch at all? It does look pretty similar to the Model 2 on page 60 in the GMG book, but knowing this is a German built machine and also what would be a lower level machine because of the Junior Exhibition, it maybe has a different model number?

The uploaded photos are all I have for now, and what made me purchase the machine...

I have no idea why there is a wire wrapped around the top of the brack bracket, Jerry. Maybe reminiscences of some sort of home made support to hold the tone arm in place, after it broke apart? Maybe it will make more sense when I receive the machine and see all the parts close up.

The tone arm should be fine. The solder joint is broken. It can be easily re-soldered and look good as new.

It's not quite an Intermediate Monarch, because the mouldings, both on the motor-board and the plinth, are different. That could well support your date of 1915-16, by which time DGAG would have lost contact with Hayes and begun changing details. I don't think it would have been called an Intermediate Monarch in Germany at that time; in 1913/14 the I.M., by then 'Model 2' in the UK, was called Grammophon Mo. 32 in German. But the HCO code remained; when you get the gramophone, look at the underneath, to see if there is a label with this code or even, if you are lucky, a date!

Jerry is right -- the tone-arm joint is simply soft-soldered, and easily repaired.
