HMV 194 Gramophone without the Horn (Facebook Market Place)
Here is a HMV 194 Gramophone without the horn on the Facebook Market Place. If you have the horn or you can make one to fit in the cabinet, it is a good buy. Oh, you need an appropriate tone arm and soundbox.

This has been discussed before. The only trouble is finding the metal parts...

So it's basically just a damaged cabinet! This to me is absolutely pointless. You won't find all the missing parts in gilt finish, a horn, a grille / fret, so it'll never be a complete machine.
Reminds me of Neil Gerty's HMV 194. It was all there apart from the oil bath motor in gilt finish. He owned the machine for years but never got to see it working. What's the point?

Of course, Everybody knows it is incredibly hard to find the original parts to complete the 194. However somebody might be interested in making it workable at least. It is a shame to give up on it. I have noticed some people creating hand-made wooden orthophonic re-entrant horn which can be fit in hmv 202. I wish I have that skill.

Give up on it?? You'd have to start on it first! There is absolutely nothing there that formed part of a 194, except the cabinet, and that's damaged. Even the motor is a Garrard, which is obviously wrong.

I am not talking about making it into original condition. It is obviously impossible, I am just saying that destroying even the cabinet and other parts is shame and saving them is important for the future. There should more creative people who can solve the issues it has.Phono48 wrote: Sat Apr 15, 2023 3:55 pmGive up on it?? You'd have to start on it first! But aren't the "creative people" busy assembling Frankenphones already? That is exactly what you'll end up with, albeit an incredibly expensive one. I don't understand the desire to preserve every last scrap of gramophonic history. The market is getting smaller for the not inconsiderable amount of complete machines we already have. It just feels like a futile exercise.Watanabehi wrote: Sat Apr 15, 2023 8:50 pmI am not talking about making it into original condition. So this is the same teak 194 cabinet we've seen before? Talk about wash, rinse, repeat.....

If that is a 194 this must be a 202. It is only a cabinet but looks very nice. However it is in Australia!! I have a 203 with a cabinet that needs work and I haven't figured out what to do for the grill cloth. The yellow is not original.
