In addition to a box o' Berliners http://dgio.net/BerlinerDupes.htm and a car full of cylinders, I'm bringing a couple special items to the Wayne show this weekend that I think will interest folks here on the forum.

If you've got one of Don Wilson's cylinder players, or if you're serious about the proper playback of your discs, you know that your standard stereo "phono in" pre-amp isn't the way to go. It imposes the RIAA playback curve that LPs are designed for and makes historical recordings sound goofy. Pre-amps like the KAB Souvenir series (no longer in production) and the current VADLYD MD12 MK4 ($2,500 list) are designed specifically to play back historical recordings as they were intended to be played -- with the correct TURNOVER and ROLLOFF settings. Acoustic recordings (all cylinders, most discs before 1925) should all be played "FLAT", without equalization, and each brand of electrical recording from the 1920s through the 1950s had its own EQ requirements. My first historically-adept pre-amp was this one, the WaxWorks II, designed and hand-built by an electrical engineer friend of mine. Not only does it have the requisite EQ settings, it switches easily between MONO (lateral-cut discs) VERT (vertical cut cylinders and discs) and STEREO. You can even single out the LEFT and RIGHT channels if you want. I used it until I got my KAB. I've tested and guarantee this unit. It will serve its new owner well. Used KABs are going for $1,000 and up. This classic can be had for $250

The rarest of all Edison Long-Play discs (and certainly one of the rarest Edison Discs in general) is the EDISON LONG-PLAY SAMPLE RECORD. Only one was ever mastered, pressed, and sent to dealers. They are jut about impossible to find, and even more impossible to find in mint condition. The sample I'm bringing to the show is just that -- mint, new old stock, found in a dealer's cache decades ago. In fact, two of these were found together, both in their original sleeves. I'm keeping one (obviously!) but I don't need two. inquire

See me in the parking lot if you want either of these. I doubt either one will make it into the hall onto my table. Drive safely -- see you in Wayne!
