Well I have zero room or money for anything new... but someone needs to grab this. It probably sounds phenomenal... and that cabinet is just :o

Edison Bell Model 248, c.1928/9, cost £27,10s. Sadly the example for sale has had it's legs amputated. Why do people do this?

Maybe a vertically challenged person? Either way they've permanently ruined it so it's a junk machine for donor parts.

Harsh but I totally agree! Some machines make better parts donors.

I hope that's a very poor attempt at sarcasm

Maybe it suffered from a wet basement... I've seen Sally so many upright machines with the legs ruined by water, bugs and the like. Do I tend to think that these amputated machines have indeed been kindly saved from a worse end .. Yet the legs can be remade and reinstalled by a wise craftsman... not an easy task!

I think this is a lovely gramophone and, once again, although not something I would personally like in my collection (with or without the cut off bits), can see it is very interesting, very well built and would probably sound very good indeed. Some-one, some-where should like it very much I think and be proud of it.

Oh, I have a little Geisha gramophone which has had the same pieces cut off and I still think it is very nice. I would never throw it away etc. I realize most people would though which I find kind of sad. :(

I don't know.... Maybe I have a "soft spot" for these things... I kind of like it. Not for $400, though.... ;)

There are a couple furniture restorers out there who could replicate the bottom of the cabinet, provided a pattern were available.
