An exciting new acquisition

I am the very proud new owner of this oak Amberola 1A with gun metal finish.. a machine which I never thought I’d get to own. It was an 8 hour round trip to pick it up… but it was well worth it. The original grill is missing… so I’ll have to make a new one. And unfortunately it’s been “refinished”.
But for now I will just enjoy listening to it!
Cheers
David

This came up on facebook about 2 weeks ago. Because I check facebook to much I just happened to log on 12 minutes after the lady posted it. I messaged her and we worked out a deal, the only thing I had to do was sell my BKT in order to get it. Thankfully it sold rather quickly and the rest is history!
Ok Jerry, I will send him a message. It's nice that they come un-finished... since the cabinet has been stripped of its stain.
Cheers,
David

As nice as BKTs are, these are pretty nice as well. You have basically the premium cylinder phonograph and personally I would rather have this than an Opera. Nice find for sure.

I made a grill for my A250. Getting a large piece of wood from a salvaged phonograph cabinet was the hardest part. Next, I had to find an authentic A250 grill that I could use to trace a template. Transferring the template to the salvaged wood was easy by poking holes in the template. I cut out the grill using a spade bit drill and a cooping saw all by hand.
My A250 grill is something I'm proud of and it adds to its value since its difficult to distinguish it from the real deal. Refinishing the cabinet is a difficult task to get right. I would approach that project only after doing lots of research.
There were different styles of grills for a 1A. Which will you choose?

I need the Lyric grill for this. I have already talked with a friend who could make me a tracing for the grill. I will probably go this route because I really enjoy making things. Plus it would be more rewarding to make one.
I will definitely update this thread when I complete it.
