Unknown (to me) horn crane

This came with an Edison Standard but was not attached to the case. It has a patent date on it: April 23, 1901. I know very little about horn cranes. Is it in fact a horn crane? If so, is it complete? I searched on line for pictures of horn cranes and found none so complicated as this one. There were many, many photos of cranes; I might have missed mine. Finally, does any one have a photo of one set up? I'd like to see how it goes together.

Thanks,

John

That's a "Chicago Horn Support." An original advertisement and actual crane are shown on page 24 of Antique Phonograph Accessories & Contraptions. Here's another picture:

George:

Thank you very much! There is a slot, a recess, in the case where the base goes. What didn't make sense to me was that this apparatus came straight out, as I see now in your picture. Not much of a space saver, is it? It looks like I have the entire thing, so that's good news.

Again, thanks.

Not a pretty picture, but here is the machine with the crane now attached. Seems an odd configuration to me. The auction house did not know how to set it up. Neither did I, until now.

I know this question has been answered somewhere on the Forum but I hope someone might indulge me with an answer: Can I use Gojo over the decal? If so, I of course will treat the decal with much, much TLC.

I wouldn't use Gojo on a decal or Goop for that matter. Neither one will bother the finish, but the gold on the decal can be, if you aren't careful. I have had Goop remove gold lines on a bedplate before...

Thanks, Curt. I did do a search (finally) and found your recommendation in an old post that concerned a Edison Standard with a store decal on it. I will leave it alone.
