I usually prefer American dance orchestras over English ones, but there are exceptions to this rule. This exception covers, among other things, the record I have just transferred. Jack Payne's version of "Happy Days Are Here Again" is the best version I've heard. And also the fastest. The record is in pristine condition and has a nice bass. Oh, and I really love that clarinet solo in the last minute.

Here's Jack Payne and His B.B.C. Dance Orchestra playing "Happy Days Are Here Again" on Columbia CB9, recorded March 1930.

Now thats a nice version of this song and its up against some tough competition! Nice transfer too - and yes those Columbia's do have very nice bass compaired to other records. I saw a copy of this come up on ebay last year and I nearly went for it - wish I had now. Even though it wasn't in such good condition as your copy.
