I thought this was very interesting.
I bet it is possible to adapt a real gramophone to do this !!!

That is a very neat modern art piece that would make a fine installation somewhere in a gallery. Love that the general acoustic principle of gramophones is still inspiring designers.

It's easy... just put a rock on the turntable, place your phone in the horn and play MP3s...
Maybe it's just me or maybe it's whatever they're playing, but it sounds like it's playing in a submarine... Also, that is a very loose interpretation of rock "music".
PS: I just noticed the "reproducer" playing the rock... so it is "rock" music...

None of the antique phonographs that are the subject of this forum can compete acoustically with even the most basic Bang & Olefsun stereo system. Does that make one better than the other? Of course not. But for demonstration purposes, this "rock" phonograph certainly drives the basic principles well past us of the Freddy Flinstone era and may well serve to spark an interest from Gen-whatevers who think CD's are yesterday's news.

A friend sent me a link to this a short while ago. I too see it as a sound sculpture, and a very nice one, at that.
I will make a spring/ball arrangement as shown in the video and put a rock on the Credenza to see how it sounds through that and, as my Credenza has an electric motor, I can “Zen out” for hours without having to wind the machine.
It is a lot like the white noise generators we have here where I work to soothe restless NAS babies.
