I need the two screws that hold the spring barrel holder/post to the motor casting. Please see picture. The one screw you see in the picture is not correct. Alternatively, if someone could show a picture of the correct screws with specifications. I’m fixing this machine for a local museum for free, so would appreciate any affordable option.
Thanks
Andreas

Hi Andreas,
If you include the serial number I can check the Victor parts listing for the Victor IV. Sometimes the part descriptions are very complete including diameters, thread sizes, etc. other times no information is given. The descriptions seem more to help the poor fellow in the stockroom to identify a part rather than as technical information for us a hundred years later. Let me take a look.
If all else fails I’m sure you know you can take careful measurements of the mating parts. You may be aware that many of the machine screw sizes available to Victor are now obsolete. For example, an number 10 screw could be had in more than ten Special thread sizes. Victor liked to use 10-30 and ¼-24 threads on many parts. These are not hardware store items.
Finding donor fasteners is certainly the best choice but making a screw is another possibility. Affordable “Special Pitch” taps and dies are available from Victor Machinery Exchange. (No kidding, Victor)

Thanks Mark, I appreciate the offer! The machine is tagged as Vic IV with a serial number of 33018. I would hope that Victor used the same screws across multiple motor types.

If you find the correct hex head bolt to fit, you could turn the head down on a lathe and cut a new slot in it.

Definitely an option, but I still hope to find correct screws.
Thanks

Found! Thank you very much to John Duffy who provided me with a pair of the correct screws for free! Turns out the same screws were used on multiple motors of the period. His came from an early VV-X motor. Definitely size 10 screws, not sure about the thread though.
