Respond on a different forum ????

Perhaps you could explain why you want responses on the APS and why you think it is appropriate ? It eludes me ............

I 'don't do' APS incidentally.

This does seem to be a very interesting item.

I would guess that it is an early electric 'pick-up' ? Maybe a proto- type which was never released as I have never seen one before ????

If this is the case then (once again like the HMV 18 sound-box) it would fill in another gap in terms of the HMV numbering system.

Maybe / Maybe not ............. :?:

It looks to have been "inspired" by the Western Electric 4A oil-damped pickup.

Very interesting indeed.

There is a previous thead on here from quite some time ago which seems to refer to the pick-up you mention. (Link below).

It seems to be very well thought of so if the HMV 6a is similar perhaps it is good too.

Oh, there is a really great youtube video link on the other thread whch demonstrates how good it is !

And wasn't there... a HMV oil damped pickup in the large electrical set no600, which had three separated consoles? It had the speaker wardrobe, the amp wardrobe, and a curious turntable+pickup unit in a small bureau. As I remember, this has the pickup hmv no7 or something, and was similar to this 6a...
A spanish catalogue for 1930 announced this huge sound system.

I have a Western Electric 4A reproducer with the original tone arm. I am wondering how this 6A reproducer is attached to its tone arm.

I imagine there's no documentation surviving for this oil-damped pickup (almost certainly experimental) which seems to have been intended to fit a Brunswick Panatrope. The suggestion that Brunswick toyed with the idea of making use of these highly sophisticated pickups in their Panatrope models is tantalizing.
