I am so close to finishing this machine but I'm having trouble locating the last two parts that i need. i need the correct crank for this machine and the remaining parts of the brake. The crank that i need for this machine is female ended with a post inside the shaft about ½ inch. As for the brake i'm actually still trying to figure out the remaining parts to the brake. I have found some examples of the break and it seems they have a post in the center where i only have an open hole. but the hole does not continue into the case so i'm just unsure as to what parts i need, or if this is even the correct partial brake. I have also noticed similar machines have a few different brakes. Any help properly identifying the brake parts or a correct brake is greatly appreciated. I have considered fabricating a crank from an edison crank. the inner diameter on the slotted edison crank seems to have the dimensions and clearance that could work i just need to neatly get a pin inside the shaft. Wisdom in this category is also very much appreciated. Thanks!

Thanks! This is interesting i wonder if the center shaft screws to the case. i dont have a vertical shaft for that main screw to seat itself in. All i have is that bottom plate. i honestly didnt think the brake was going to be this hard to put back together.

Modifying a Victor crank would look more appropriate.

It might be best to start with a nice reproduction Victor crank, if the inside diameter of the shaft is correct.

I had a machine like yours several years ago. The original crank was "S" shaped, like the pic below...

That's not correct for this model Curt.

I would give up on the brake pictured in BW with the wire spring.
I have a broken version of that which I gave up trying to repair.

I have included two pics which show other proper springs for
Zonophone which are superior. It may make your search easier.

The two screw hole alignments are the same. Just a suggestion.

Croaking Frog has listed on eBay the brake you need. Not listed as a brake so search under “phonograph zonophone” and it should come up. Complete except for the leather friction pad.

Correction…. Looks like it is also missing the wire spring.
