Japanese Lacquer VV-300 on Ebay near Pittsburgh. Expensive, but perhaps someone close by to the seller could work out a deal for a cheaper price based on being ready to pick it up easily. Wish I had the space.

Perhaps I'm out of touch with market realities, but I'd say calling that "expensive" is a bit like saying a jet engine is "loud," considering that to my eye it's in really rough condition. I'd think restoring the paint would be a major undertaking. Am I being too harsh on it?

That said, agreed that in the abstract I'd love to have one of those ersatz Asian decorated cabinets, if only I were still looking to expand, rather than consolidate, the collection.

I like it but wouldn't pay half of that price.

I am questioning it's originality. I have only seen the Japanese version with a orange base paint with graphics painted over them. In fact I own a Victor Victrola 130 with the Japanese paintings on them. I've never heard of a blue painted one. But I could be wrong but have just never heard or seen one. It's also not listed on the Victor Victrola site under special finishes (http://www.victor-victrola.com/painted.htm)

It also looks to me like the decal under the lid might have been painted around the edges to hide where sanding had stopped. Also the decal was put on over the color so it should have blue seen thru where the the decal would be clear. To me this was an oak model that had an aftermarket paint job. But like I said, it's just my opinion. It's nice, but priced high if it's not an original.

I have two black painted Victrolas and they both have orange interiors. I've seen several after market ones done in blue. The Wanamaker store may have had some VV-XI's painted with blue interiors, but I think even these were aftermarket paint jobs. This machine was clearly shipped from the factory in Oak. Look where the black paint has fallen off.

Authenticity aside, I realized I posted this in the trader forum. I thought I posted in the Ebay alerts forum. My mistake
Not my offer, kinda just saw and wanted to share it in case. And it seems to be an aftermarket paint job! A closer look at the oak under the decal makes that clear. Very interesting that it's not painted over though. It's quite overpriced, but perhaps if it sits someone could get it for an offer of $400 or less.

It is way too much for this. It looks Japanese like, but somehow it doesn't seem like Japanese artists created these pictures. It looks different from real Japanese art.It looks more like Chinese artists copied the style.
