While on vacation in Spain, I found a well preserved sonora trench phonograph in khaki colored leather. WWI color.
Not many around I believe
CCT could mean canadian corps troops?

The soundbox and extra's (2 elbows) are in the leather pouch.

A very impressive machine, but the date of May 14th 1918 makes it unlikely that it saw service during WW1.
The initials C.C.T. (painted upside down?) are probably the initials of the original owner.
The R.J.Wakeman book on Sonora, which I don't have, should include more information on this model.

It is unlikely to have been anything Canadian. By WWI, Canada had factories producing talking machines with mainstream labels. There were also a large number of off-brand workshops factories. A Canadian military machine would likely have been sourced from a Canadian manufacturer.

I tend agree with the assessment that the letters, C.C.T. , are probably someone's initials. The only Canadian military group with the acronym C.C.T. is the Canadian Calibration Troop. Who and what they were/are remains a mystery. To my current best knowledge they exist only in a list of acronyms.

Most likely the military arm of the Department of Weights and Measures.

An old thread "Did Sonora make a reflector phonograph" has bobbed to the surface; a reply there suggests "C.C.T." stands for "Canadian Crown Troops."

Incidentally, that thread goes back to 2009, and photos from its beginning are all there. Does that mean the problem of missing photos in older threads has finally been solved?

I just checked several old threads through the Archives Featured Phonographs links, and unfortunately none show pictures Maybe the one you found is a fluke or maybe someone is working on fixing things? Hope dies last...
