Where to begin?

The Pathegraphe Language Machine was the first mechanical acoustic device made for teaching languages. The Pathegraphe achieves this by playing synchronised audio and visual material: sound is played back from a spoken language disc as a display of related text scrolls from a paper cylinder.

The Pathegraphe was designed and manufactured around 1912 by Charles and Emile Pathé of the French company Pathé Frères. The Pathegraphe was the first machine of its type for teaching languages. It was one of several new gramophone and related products produced by Pathé from its own designs. Pathé also copied designs from other manufacturers, such as Edison. (Note, I coped the preceding two paragraphs from the Powerhouse Collection website in Australia :) )

It works great and comes with one English record lesson plus the matching film strips. This unique piece was brought to the US by a renown collector who has since downsized his collection. It's a big machine and would be best to pick up in Denver on the way to Chicago or the LA show. Happy to store it safely for the right buyer until shipping can be arranged.

Happy to answer questions. Thanks and Happy Holidays!
