Hi i got my HMV 97 with the mail today, but it did not survive the transport.

The tonearm must have had pressure on it, breaking the pot metal and also the bearing that holds it in place

My question is, can this be fixed ? Or where can i buy a spare "speaker tube" for a HMV Model 97?

Heres a picture of the broken part. Please help... links to sites where parts can be bought is mostly welcome.

Where he pot metal has snapped - could it be glued together again? I've never had this problem but its worth a try in my opinion.

I think you should try & repair it.
I think (?) you must have a very early Model 97 because mine is different & doesn't use any pot metal at all.
The one below is actually from a Model 88, but my 97 is exactly the same except the black pressed steel part has a couple slots cut in it, and a clamp goes around it to secure the tonearm & bearing unit in place. My complete 88 is the same as pictured below, and 3 screws secure the arm to the housing.
I've never seen one before with a pot metal housing for the tonearm assembly.
Is there a cream plastic data tag attached to the top side of the motor board under the turntable?

yes there is a data tag, it says No 97 and a serial number, the turntable has a date written on it, x/x 1934 it says.

I think i might be able to glue it with some good glue, but having that said, i would still need a new bearing, does anyone know what kind should be used, is there allready a place you know where to get them ? i hope the bearing is just a standard solid closed one, and maye just a new one can be used ??

I had a broken pot metal bracket that held my Edison horn in place, the lower of the two. I used a two part epoxy metal glue I found at the farm supply store that has held fine. You mix the two parts and clamp to hold them firmly in place which I did for 24 hours. No problems. I also fixed a broken pot metal tonearm pivot on a victor using the two part JB Weld.. The metal glue I used on the edison was not the JB weld however. I can't recall the name though.

i tried some loctite epoxy glue, but it would not glue it together. When at first i got it glued together, i was wonedring, how it all would fit together. And where would the bearing balls go, it simply to me, doesnt make any sense. I found someone who has a spare model 88 or maybe its in fact a model 97 just another version, but i dont think that it will fit, because the tonearm has a bearing wrapped around it (like gramophoneshane´s picture in this post), whilst mine does not (see picture).

Any help would really be appreciated. (does a sparepartlist exist for these gramophones ?, like some kind of assembly reference list ?)

Use JB Weld. Stuff rocks for this sort of thing.
