It appears to have both a cutting head for cutting lacquers but also a playback head too. Given its microphone and headphone inputs, I guess it's designed for capturing live sounds "in the field" and sampling playback?

Yes, it's an MSS record lathe, and clearly a portable variety for cutting (or strictly speaking, embossing) discs on location. Designed by Cecil Watts. The Bakelite arm to the left is an Acos GP20 for playback.

It certainly was of interest. It sold for £410.
